Welsh is a Celtic language and one of the oldest European languages. Along with Cornish and Breton, the Welsh language forms the Brittonic subgroup of the Celtic languages.
Almost ¾ of a million people in Wales speak Welsh as a first language. It’s the most used of all the Celtic languages and is also one of the official languages of Wales. Many children are raised learning Welsh as their native tongue, and people from all walks of life use it on a daily basis.
The language has two dialects, Northern Welsh and Southern Welsh. In Northern Wales, the Welsh speakers make up the majority of the population. Since the creation of the National Assembly of Wales, many efforts have been made to preserve this special language.Instant quote

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the longest name for a place is also in the Welsh language: Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. That translates to "Saint Mary’s Church in the hollow of the white hazel near the rapid whirlpool and the Church of Saint Tysilio of the red cave."
Welsh is also spoken outside of Wales. Immigrants have established the language in far-off places, such as an Argentinian province in Patagonia.

The Welsh literary tradition is centuries old. “The Tales of Mabinogion” is a very special literary work written in the Welsh language. The exact time when it was written is unknown, mostly because it was originally passed down orally and only documented in writing at a much later time.
The main reason for the survival of the Welsh language throughout history is because the Bible was translated into Welsh during the Renaissance.
